"On Friday, the University of Alabama board approved yet another expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium — an additional 9,000 seats in the south end zone that would enlarge the capacity from 92,138 to well more than 101,000. That would place Bryant-Denny, which is already the eighth largest stadium in the country, among only five football stadiums in the United States seating 100,000 or more. Demand to see Alabama play football is the reason for the expansion, Mal Moore, director of UA athletics, said last week before the board gave its official seal of approval.

'The biggest thing that says to us, and has said all along [that an expansion is in order] ... is the demand for tickets,' Moore said in a news conference Tuesday. He added there is a waiting list of about 10,000 people wanting tickets and another 3,000 season-ticket holders who want more tickets. He told the trustees Thursday that, truth be told, Alabama could probably fill another 30,000 seats per game."
